The Guestlight Rite

The Guestlight Rite welcomes a stranger under Lysvar's protection by lighting a Mirrorseed Lantern and naming what may be known, where they may walk, and who answers for their safety. It is beautiful, formal, and practical: water, bread, lamp, witness, boundary. Families have kept the rite for generations because kindness without terms is too easily turned against the kind. A guest may weep with relief when the flame rises. A host may fear the same light, knowing that protection is not sentiment but obligation with teeth.
