The Blackseal Parley kept rival clans from turning Blackseal Ford into a permanent war gate. It established shared tolls, rotating guards, emergency crossing rights, and a way to invoke the White Debt without giving one clan the whole river. The talks were held in thaw stink: mud, wet wool, river ice, horse breath, lamp smoke, and anger kept alive by dead relatives. Each side claims it conceded too much, which may be why the agreement still works. The parley is remembered as mercy under duress and strategy wearing a peace-cloak. Old clan songs place its first oaths beside winter graves older than the present toll posts, and each generation repeats the bargain because the river remembers what pride once cost.
