The Amber Road Treachery exposed guides, toll clerks, and minor riders who sold safe-passage timings to raiders and rival courts. Reprisals restored order, but made the road feel watched by knives as much as lances. The story smells of salt dust, broken wax, horse sweat, spilled grain, and night fires doused too quickly. Surayan still argues whether the treachery proved the need for harsher patrols or proved that public honour can breed private profit. Every road promise made afterward carries its shadow.
