The Hall-Ring Court
Also known as Court of the Witness Ring.
Lore
The Hall-Ring Court makes law loud enough to travel. Disputes over oath-rides, herd theft, grazing trespass, feud limits, and failed horn calls are spoken in the ring before witnesses from several halls. The court smells of trampled rushes, wet wool, smoke, horse leather, and anger held barely in its teeth. A verdict there cannot be buried in one chief's mead hall. It must be carried outward by riders, repeated at gates, and remembered when winter asks who failed. The court is severe because private shame is too small for public deaths.
