House Marovan

House Marovan keeps its grandeur in restraint. Its halls are sober, its portraits crowded with keys, road-stones, winter gates, sealed books, and ancestors who look less triumphant than burdened. Children inherit handwriting drills beside command histories; they are taught that a favour received becomes a duty recorded, and that a duty neglected may outlive the negligent by centuries. The house has held Caerdun together through empty thrones and burning roads, and that service has made it indispensable.
