Aelvarion

Aelvarion is remembered as the sea-crowned war king who made command kneel before burden. In the old songs he stands beneath the Pearl Sail Standard with rain on his hair and salt drying white on his mail, pledging his ships, treasury, and kin before asking other houses to bleed. His greatness was not that he loved war; Vaelorn distrusts rulers who do. It was that he understood retreat could become a slower death if no one held the coast. His name is invoked whenever captains demand proof that authority will stand in the first danger, not merely count the dead afterward.
