Aelthir Havenward rules no field by shouting. His authority is the low voice heard after the first charge has failed, when captains taste copper in their mouths and wounded men begin listening for permission to despair. Vaelorn understands him because a haven is not only a wall or a lamp; it is the discipline of keeping frightened people named, fed, judged, and alive when panic wants every gate thrown open or closed. Aelthir carries that discipline into war. He gives the proud enough silence to hear better counsel and the broken enough shelter to stand again. Around him are salt-stiff cloaks, lamp oil, clean bandage linen, rain on pale stone, and the careful records of who was saved, who was spent, and who must answer later. His mercy is gentle in the hand and severe in the ledger.
