Sharkun Warg-road hears a road and thinks of teeth. Borders amuse him because they are usually defended by people who believe maps can outrun hunger. His beasts know mud, scent, panic, and the warmth of a supply column before scouts admit anything is wrong. Ordran understands him unwillingly, because every road built for rescue or command also creates a line that raiders can study, cut, and haunt. The rougher warbands understand him gladly: movement is life, and life leaves tracks. Sharkun smells of wet fur, old blood, trampled fern, leather reins, and rain steaming from animal backs. He does not always seize ground. Often he does worse. He teaches every mile behind an army to feel hunted.
