Commander
Orren Slatehand
Playable with Dovarim · Caerdun
Commander Canon
Orren Slatehand looks harmless until a failing wall holds because he remembered how the last one fell. He carries chalk, wire, spare rivets, folded field notes, and a habit of asking humiliatingly useful questions while braver men are still admiring their own courage. Caerdun trusts the witness in him: the belief that every breach must be recorded honestly or repeated by fools. Dovarim trusts the craft in him: the certainty that memory means nothing until it becomes brace, hinge, bolt, ration shelf, or repaired stair. Orren's command smells of wet slate, lamp soot, iron filings, old paper, and rain on unfinished stone. He does not make soldiers feel heroic. He makes them feel inspected, corrected, and alive. Many commanders mock his ledgers once. Most who survive him learn to ask what the footnote says.
