Hirren Beaconrunner

Hirren Beaconrunner has no patience for commanders who speak of urgency from chairs. He knows that a message arriving one hour late can kill more people than a sword and that a beacon unlit is sometimes a confession. Caerdun's whole body of road-stone, watch stair, archive bell, and signal flame seems to move through him. He carries orders, warnings, pleas, and terrible arithmetic between places that would otherwise die separately. Hirren smells of rain-soaked wool, hot lamp glass, road dust, blistered feet, and smoke caught in the throat after a night climb. His gift is not glory. It is making sure the right army, surgeon, grain cart, or warning exists in the right place before defeat has been given an official name.
